Despite the weather flirting with us the last few weeks with a few cold days and a few not too bad days,

no matter what the temperature decides to do over the next few days (and the forecast doesn’t look too promising),

today marks the first offical day of winter.

How do you normally go about it?

Are you like that very sleepy bear from the kids book (I like that series) and just want to go into hibernation for the next three months?

Or do you go about your routine as normal just adding another layer or two on?

Now in a perfect world, well my perfect world, the temperature would be like Hawaii year round – late 20’s to early 30’s with not much variation.

Just minus the volcanos.

But obviously that isn’t going to happen in my reality.

Regardless of what you would like to do, the reality is there’s only one smart option:

To keep moving and do what you have been doing (providing you have been doing something of course!)

Otherwise the reality come September when things start to warm up isn’t pretty.

Did you know that most people normally stack on a few kilos this time of year?

They move less and eat more comfort foods.

Probably a few more red wines thrown in too.

But don’t disappear into your cocoon and lock yourself away.

And definitely don’t lose heart.

The best thing you can do is to keep moving now, or start.

Because if you can do it at this time of the year when it’s cold and dark,

you can do it anytime.

Besides, like I mentioned last week, its only cold for the first 5 minutes or so and then you warm up and lose a layer or two once you start moving.

And there’s something special about that winter workout.

You’ll get bragging rights over everyone else who whinges and start the day with a spring in your step.
