Something you may not have known, I only found out yesterday myself, but today is World Obesity Day.
And according to their website, this is their aim:
Established in 2015 by the World Obesity Federation, World Obesity Day is an annual campaign that aims to stimulate and support practical actions that will help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reverse the global obesity crisis.
Fair enough, considering that since 1975 obesity worldwide has tripled according to the World Health Organisation.
So with all of that in mind, I’d love to hear what you would change to stop this epidemic from getting out of hand?
I’ll list mine and I’d love to hear what you think of those and give me yours too.
* Health fund rebates for people who can prove that they have regular attendance at a gym or a personal trainer. Or even those who exercise at home maybe have them sign a stat dec on their workouts for a set period of time in a log book or something like that.
Yes I get that people can rort that. But like with your tax, if there’s random auditing done, it’ll eventually catch you out if you’re claiming what you’re not entitled too.
For me, this is the same as a smoker paying a premium on their health fund.
If they can ask that, why can’t they ask someone if they regularly participate in exercise?
* A sugar tax of sorts that gets placed on all junk food. And rather than the extra whatever percent is deemed fair going back into the pocket of the company making those foods, it goes to a fund to be distributed for health services.
So like when a business has to do a BAS and pay 10% GST to the government every quarter, they have to submit a similar statement of their junk food sales.
And don’t tell me that’s too much hard work when everyone stocktakes anyways.
* A greater focus on sport at schools. Have sports day more than once a week. Cause after all, I bet your kids aren’t doing English or Maths only one day every week.
Put sports and activity on a higher pedestal and kids might take it more seriously.
I’m just thinking out loud here but something has to be done and that’s just three of my suggestions.
Let me know yours.
