One of Emily’s favourite sayings is “Snooze you lose buddy”.
Kinda funny when a 4 year old is saying it to anyone in particular.
Anyways, her saying might be appropriate today if you’re one of those who like to hit the snooze button when your alarm goes off in the morning.
Personally, I have to get out of bed straight away, as soon as the alarm goes off.
Mainly before my body works out what’s going on and tries to talk me in to ‘just laying there for a little bit longer’.
Kinda like being on autopilot.
Anyways, last week I read an article on why hitting the snooze button isn’t a good idea.
Apart from the obvious fact of you being late for whatever it is you have to get ready for in the first place.
It seems sleep experts now think that hitting the snooze button can leave you feeling worse than you actually would have originally if you had of just got up the first time.
Reason being is your body releases hormones that encourage it to begin a new sleep cycle and basically gets annoyed that your snoozed alarm wakes you up just as this has started.
Interesting finding don’t you think?
So what do the experts recommend to help you get out of bed straight away?
Not surprisingly, exercise was the first recommendation.
Followed by a warm shower or exposure to natural light – yes I know that’s hard if you’re waking up in the dark.
Or you could just set your alarm to the time your snooze would have gone off.
I like the first choice of exercise obviously and I’ve got your back there of course with our Observatory Hill or Lilyfield early morning sessions to start your day off on the right foot.
