You may not know that this was the original title for the Motley Crue song Kickstart My Heart but it wasn’t as catchy.
Not really, I just made that up.
But seriously, today is a public service announcement of sorts.
I found out that Friday was Restart A Heart Day and I want to reinforce today the importance of knowing CPR.
Have you done the course?
Or at the least, would you know what to do if someone had a heart attack or stopped breathing due to something else?
As part of my qualifications and insurance being up to date we have to do our CPR refresher course each year but even if you did it every 3 years as part of an overall first aid course it is something that would be well worth your while.
Cause after all, you’d hate to have to use it one day and freeze and not know what to do.
Just to reinforce what to do, these steps are from NSW Health:
– Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance
– Start CPR by pushing hard and fast in the centre of the chest
– Shock using a defibrillator as soon as possible to restart the heart, if one is available.
You may have noticed that a lot of shopping centres and even some workplaces now have a defib in a relatively easy to find location.
I’ve only ever used them in a course setting, but they’re basically fool proof.
They tell you what to do as soon as you open them up.
So definitely book yourself in if you are overdue.
PS – have you joined in for the latest DPM Spring 6 Week Challenge?
We officially start next Monday but you can get the early head start if you enrol now.
