Here’s why I openly take the mickey out of myself – in life whether that be at my DPM sessions or socially and also here in these emails.

Cause it means I can’t be exposed for seemingly living a ‘perfect life’ and expecting you to do the same.

I do it to prove that I’m just like you.

I have my struggles just like you.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to be the person always whinging.

Like I mentioned last week, I want my mental diet to not be taken up by all that stuff when there’s enough other negative stuff around the days.

I just want you to realise you don’t have to beat yourself up cause your life isn’t perfect.

Cause mine sure as hell isn’t.

But it also means that I can’t be called out for anything if I’m an open book.

I guess for someone of our vintage, we get it these days, especially when you look at someones Instagram or Facebook and it’s just seems like they live an amazing life.

Holiday overseas.

Their perfect kid getting whatever award.

The perfectly immaculately posed photos that must’ve taken half an hour to design the perfect shot with the right lighting and clothing accessorised to the background.

But for some, it’s easy to buy into the ‘everyone else seems like they have it all’ myth. 

When behind closed doors those people are often the most miserable out of everyone and they’re posting that stuff for self validation.

So you won’t see the perfect highlight reel from me.

I sometimes don’t get my planned workout in that day when something with work or the kids can come up.

It is what it is.

I tell you these things so you don’t have to beat yourself up when it happens to you.

But if I’m keeping my end of the bargain for most of the time, just like I ask you to, then I know I’m in front and I know that you’ll be in front.

So you can see that I’m being 100% authentic with you all the time – so you understand that when things are good that’s great, but on the flip side, when things aren’t as good, then it will turn around soon.

You just have to keep turning up and doing the work to the best of your ability.
