I heard a quote last week that was made by Dick Van Dyke – you know of Mary Poppins fame – a few years ago.
He was asked when he turned 90 what his secret to getting old was.
His answer was simple.
Just keep moving.
Dick says “It’s more in my nature to be optimistic, I think. I’m one of those people who gets up on the right side of the bed in the morning.
I get up and have a cup of coffee and go to the gym before I talk myself out of it because I will as anybody will”.
And that advice from Dick is spot on.
The thing I like about working out in the morning is that it’s done.
Nothing can get in the way of it.
The hardest thing you have to do is get out of bed.
Then it gets easier.
Cause later in the day something can always come up.
The kids will need you.
Work needs something done.
The time flies by.
But if you do it early in the day it’s done so it doesn’t matter what comes up for the rest of the day.
That’s not to mention the endorphin benefits that you get from your exercise.
And I’d guess that helps in Dick’s healthy mindset too – he keeps moving so his brain is more active, healthy and positive.
So thought for today is to just keep moving.
Your body will thank you – especially as we get older.
