One of my favourite things in the world to do is sleep.
Funny how much you prioritise sleep now when you have kids compared to your late teens and early 20’s when you thought nothing of getting blind drunk and backing up to work or uni after a couple of hours sleep if you were lucky.
And a day time sleep when you can score one of those – well that’s just the best thing since sliced bread.

As you know doubt realise if you’ve been reading these on a regular basis, I’ve covered sleep a few times over the years.

My favourite sleep tip if you’re interested is this one here

But new research published last month has also shown that what sound your alarm is can make a difference to you waking up groggy and waking up nice and fresh.

That’s interesting don’t you think?

The traditional alarm clock sound beep, beep, beep is associated with increased grogginess (sleep inertia) upon wake up compared to a more relaxed sound like an easy listening song or melody.

My alarm for the last few years has always been a softer type melody that you can find on your phone. Not because of this, I just didn’t want a blaring beep, beep, beep sound going off at 4:20am.

Now it seems there was a method in my choice.

Supposedly, this makes you make up properly faster and speeds up you going from flat out sleep to increased alertness.

A good thing if you have to get up and drive not long after waking up.

Maybe a change of alarm tune might be worth a try for you if you always seem to find the wake up a punish?

Cheers,
Daniel
