As you’re no doubt aware, I love a good coffee in the morning.

And sometimes in the afternoon too.

You’ve also seen the amount of studies and articles that I’ve referenced over the years that shows how you can benefit from your daily addiction.

Well that’s my justification anyways.

Besides, it just tastes so good.

And effective when you never get the amount of sleep you need as a busy parent.

But something I heard about last week just has me puzzled.

I’m a big podcast listener these days instead of the radio when I’m in the car and an ad on an American one got my attention.

Quite simply I just don’t get it.

Starbucks have released a double shot coffee energy drink.

Not sure whether it has hit our shores here yet or not, cause Starbucks only just scrapes in ahead of instant coffee in my book.

In fact, I’d be tempted to go the instant route.

But, it’s a coffee drink with guarana, ginseng, taurine and other vitamins.

Now, the reason I don’t get it is hopefully obvious…

Coffee is an energy drink as such all by itself.

So, if you need an energy hit, wouldn’t you just go and have a coffee?

That’s what I do when I start flagging in the mid afternoon after being up early.

Whether this will be a success or not remains to be seen.

But for the life of me, I just don’t understand.

Would you try it?

Does it make sense to you and it’s me who’s just a simpleton?

I don’t know.

One thing I do know however, is that you can have coffee as part of your DPM food plan.

And you can get an energy boost from it.

Depending on your sensitivity to caffeine, you may even get a nice little boost to your metabolism too – which is only going to help you with losing those stubborn kilos.

The other thing I also know, is that I’m not a fan of those energy drinks.

I’d recommend staying away from them.

Especially as part of your DPM food plan.

They just simply can’t be good for your long term health. All those extra stimulants plus the sugar content means I’ll give them a miss.

But like anything, it’s always up to you.
